Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking a cosmetic tattoo treatment at Lush & Lined in Williamstown, Melbourne.

General

What is cosmetic tattooing?
Cosmetic tattooing — also called semi-permanent makeup or micropigmentation is a technique that uses fine needles to deposit pigment into the upper layers of the skin to enhance features naturally. Unlike traditional tattooing, cosmetic pigments are designed to fade gradually over time.
How long does cosmetic tattooing last?
Results typically last 12 months to 3 years depending on the treatment, skin type, lifestyle, and sun exposure. Touch-up appointments help maintain the result beyond the initial fade period.
Does cosmetic tattooing hurt?
A topical numbing cream is applied before treatment, so most clients experience minimal discomfort generally described as a light scratching or pressure sensation. Sensitivity varies between individuals.
Am I a good candidate for cosmetic tattooing?
Most adults are suitable candidates. A pre-treatment consultation and skin assessment help determine the best approach for your skin type, tone, and treatment history. Some skin conditions or medications may require a medical clearance.
How do I prepare for my appointment?
Avoid blood-thinning medications (such as aspirin and ibuprofen), alcohol, and excessive sun exposure in the days before your appointment. Specific preparation advice is provided at the consultation stage.

Eyebrow Tattooing

How long does eyebrow tattooing last?
Between 12 and 24 months for most clients, depending on skin type, sun exposure, and lifestyle. A colour refresh is recommended at 12–18 months.
What eyebrow tattooing techniques are available?
Lush & Lined specialises in natural-looking brow results. Technique is selected based on your skin type, brow density, and desired outcome rather than following a one-size approach.
How long is the healing time for eyebrow tattooing?
Initial healing takes 7–10 days. The pigment softens and settles over 4–6 weeks to reveal the true healed colour and shape. A review appointment at six weeks is standard.
Can I still fill in my brows after treatment?
Yes. Cosmetic tattooing creates a base shape and colour. Many clients continue to add a little extra product for special occasions if desired.

Lip Blush Tattooing

How long does lip blush tattooing last?
Typically 2–3 years, with a touch-up recommended at 12–18 months depending on lifestyle and sun exposure.
What shades are available for lip blush?
Colour is fully customised to your natural lip tone and desired result from a barely-there tint that simply refreshes your natural colour to a more defined rosy or peachy finish.
How long does the lip blush healing process take?
Initial healing takes 5–7 days. The pigment fades significantly in the first week before settling to the true healed shade over approximately 4 weeks.
Can I wear lipstick after lip blush?
Absolutely. Lip blush enhances your natural colour and does not prevent you from wearing lipstick, lip gloss, or other products over the top.

Cosmetic Tattoo Removal

How many removal sessions will I need?
This depends on the age, colour, and depth of the existing pigment. Most clients require between 2 and 6 sessions spaced 6–8 weeks apart.
What removal method is used?
Facial cosmetic tattoo removal is performed using a saline-based technique for areas like brows, lips, and eyeliner. Laser removal is available for non-facial tattoos and is assessed separately depending on the tattoo location and history.
Is removal suitable for all cosmetic pigment types?
Most semi-permanent cosmetic pigments respond well to this treatment. A consultation is needed to assess suitability based on your pigment history, skin type, and treatment goals.
Can I book new cosmetic tattooing after removal?
Depending on how much pigment has faded, fresh cosmetic tattooing can often be discussed and booked after a series of removal sessions. This is assessed individually at each consultation.

Aftercare

What does aftercare involve?
Aftercare typically includes keeping the treated area clean and dry, avoiding picking or peeling, staying out of direct sun exposure, and avoiding swimming and saunas during the initial healing period. Full aftercare instructions are provided at your appointment.
Will the result look different while it is healing?
Yes. All cosmetic tattoo treatments appear bolder immediately after the procedure and soften significantly as the skin heals. The true healed result is visible at approximately 4–6 weeks post-treatment.
Can I wear makeup over my treatment while it is healing?
It is recommended to avoid applying makeup directly to the treated area for at least the first week while initial healing takes place. Your aftercare instructions will include specific guidance.
